The SD card slot is located inside the side door.  Open the side door by pushing the tab toward the edge of the camera until the door pops open. To insert the microSD card, make sure the metal contacts of the SD card are facing the camera, then place it in the SD slot and press it completely in at an angle. When fully inserted, the card clicks into place. 

To remove the card, place your fingernail against the edge of the memory card and lightly press it further into the camera at an angle. The card springs out far enough to be removed.

For the best results with your GoPro camera, use microSD cards that are supported by GoPro. Visit Works with GoPro for the latest list of supported microSD cards and other compatible third-party products. We recommend only purchasing reputable microSD cards through official resellers. 

The HERO5 Session has an integrated battery. Make sure that the camera is powered off. Open the side door by pushing the tab toward the edge of the camera until the door pops open. 

To charge your HERO5 Session, insert the included USB-C cable into your camera and into a computer USB port or a USB wall charger that outputs 5V 2A (ideal), or 5V 1A (minimum).  

During charging, a solid red LED status light appears on the front of the camera. Once charging is complete, the red LED lights turn off. It typically takes about two hours to fully charge your HERO5 Session camera with a 5V 1A wall charger. Times vary with other charging methods.

For faster charging, use the GoPro Supercharger (sold separately).

You can also power your HERO5 Session while capturing for longer periods with the USB-C cable connected. The side door can also be removed in those instances where it is in the way of the cable. Simply open the door fully and gently pull it away from the camera. NOTE: Your HERO5 Session is not waterproof with the side door removed.

Once you’ve become familiar with your GoPro, download the Capture app available for iOS^® and Android^™. Capture lets you use your mobile device to preview shots, control your GoPro, download your photos, videos and more.

Connecting Your GoPro to Capture:

1. Download Capture from the Apple^® App Store^® or Google Play™.
2. Power on your GoPro by pressing the Mode button.
3. Swipe down from the top of the touch display, then tap Connect > Connect New Device > Capture App.
4. Open Capture on your mobile device and follow the prompts to connect to your GoPro.

Updating Your GoPro:

Camera updates keep your GoPro current with newly released features and help ensure optimal performance. When connected to Capture, you’ll get automatic notifications about camera updates. Just follow the on-screen prompts to install the update.

Setting Up Auto Upload to Cloud:

With an optional GoPro Plus subscription, your HERO5 can auto upload photos and videos to the cloud for easy access, editing and sharing in the Capture and Quik™ mobile apps.¹ You’ll need to use Capture to set up the Auto Upload to Cloud feature on your HERO5. QuikCapture lets you automatically start and stop capturing video and photos on your GoPro. When the camera is off, one press of the Shutter button turns the camera on and immediately begins capturing video or time lapse photos. A short press starts to record video. Press and hold to capture time lapse photos. Press again to stop recording and power off the camera. QuikCapture also helps conserve battery power because the camera is on only when you’re recording.

Wearing your HERO5 Session is an awesome way to share your journey and show it from your perspective.  It’s also an easy way to keep your hands free so you can focus on what you’re doing while capturing what you’re doing.

Time Lapse is a great way to capture and condense a longer period of time. Afterwards you can even select individual photos from a time lapse sequence using the Quik for desktop app.

Quik™ for desktop, a free GoPro app available for Mac^® and Windows^®, makes it easy to import photos and videos from your camera or microSD™ card. You can also use Quik to transform your footage into awesome videos synced to music, share with friends, update your camera and more.

Importing to your computer using Quik:

1. Connect your camera to your computer using the included cable, or insert your microSD card using a microSD card reader/adapter (sold separately).
2. Quik automatically imports your photos and videos at full source quality.
3. If you’re a GoPro Plus subscriber, Quik automatically uploads your photos and videos to the cloud.¹

On your phone or tablet:

Edit your photos and videos anywhere with GoPro mobile apps, Quik™ and Capture. Quik makes it easy to create awesome videos synced to music with just a few taps. Capture lets you download your photos and videos to your phone, trim videos, grab photos from videos and more. Both apps are available free for iOS and Android.¹

Editing with Quik:

Use Capture or Quik Key to download photos and videos to your phone.

1. Open Quik on your phone.
2. Select the photos and video clips you want to include in your edit.
3. Pick an editing style and a song. Quik automatically creates a video with transitions and effects synced to the beat of the music.
4. Customize your story with text, filters and more, then easily share it with friends:

Editing with Capture:

1. Connect your GoPro to Capture. For help connecting, see the Capture App section in the Getting Started module of this tutorial.
2. Tap the Media icon.
3. Select a video, then tap the Scissors icon or the Grab a Photo icon.
4. When finished, you can share to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more.

With Protune enabled, you can capture higher-quality photos, videos, and audio to use in your video editing. Protune's high data rate captures images with less compression, giving content creators higher quality for more professional productions. You can change and fine-tune settings such as Color, ISO, Sharpness, White Balance and more.

For best results, plan your video or photo shoot. Capturing videos and photos at different angles and changing the field of view will help tell your story more effectively and keep it fun and entertaining.

While capturing photos and videos, keep your lighting and audio in mind. Be sure that your subject is well-lit so that when it comes time to edit, your videos are bright and easy to see.

You can always play back your first few videos on your HERO5 Session™ to ensure that your subjects are framed correctly, well-lit and easy to hear. 

After you have imported all your content, a good practice to follow is formatting your microSD card. Formatting clears your card and keeps it in good working order.

Love the rugged waterproof design of the new HERO5 Session™? Whenever you’ve used your GoPro in salt water, follow these steps to ensure that it stays in great working condition:

• Completely rinse the camera with fresh water to ensure no sand or debris is left on the camera.
• Dry the entire camera.
• Inspect all seals on the camera to ensure that they are dry and free from debris, especially near the doors. If there is any debris and you are unable to open the door, try rinsing with fresh water again and tapping the camera to dislodge first. Be sure to dry the entire camera before opening any doors as it is not waterproof when the doors are open.
