You should install the SD card before you install the battery. First, open the battery door on the bottom of HERO5 Black by holding down the Latch Release button and sliding the door open. Then, locate the SD card slot above the battery compartment. With the metal contacts of the SD card facing the front of the camera, insert the card into the slot until it clicks into place. To remove the card, press it lightly, a little further into the slot. The card will spring out far enough to be removed.
To install the battery, simply insert the battery into the battery slot, then slide the battery door back into place.
For the best results with your GoPro, use microSD cards that are supported by GoPro. Visit Works with GoPro for the latest list of supported microSD cards and other compatible third-party products. We recommend only purchasing reputable microSD cards through official resellers.
Make sure your HERO5 Black camera is powered off. Then, press and slide the Latch Release button to open the side door. To charge your HERO5 Black, insert the included USB-C cable into your camera and into a computer USB port or a USB wall charger that outputs 5V 2A (ideal), or 5V 1A (minimum).
The LED status lights will turn on while your HERO5 Black is charging. Once charging is complete, the lights turn off. It typically takes about two hours to fully charge your HERO5 Black camera with a 5V 1A wall charger. Times vary with other charging methods.
For faster charging, use the GoPro Supercharger (sold separately).
For additional charging tips and tricks, see How to Charge Your HERO5 Black.
There are only two buttons on HERO5 Black: the Mode button and the Shutter button.
Press the Mode button to turn on the camera. Then take a few minutes to set up your camera and go through the camera tour to learn about its features, settings and touch display gestures.
Repeatedly pressing the Mode button cycles through the Video, Photo, Burst and Time Lapse modes on your HERO5 Black.
