If you are unable to power on the LCD BacPac with your HD HERO2 and a fully charged battery, then unfortunately there could be a communication failure between the camera and BacPac.  We have recently discovered a fault in the camera's firmware that can cause this issue, and have released a firmware update to allow the camera to repair the LCD.  This latest firmware update will also enable 3D functionality with two HD HERO2 cameras and our 3D HERO system.
To go ahead and repair your LCD BacPac, please follow the below procedure:

  1. Update your camera to the latest firmware, by connecting the camera to your computer with GoPro Cineform Studio software running. If you have not previously completed a firmware update or downloaded the GoPro Cineform Studio software, please go to the HD HERO2 Firmware Update page.
  2. Once you have successfully completed the update, power on your camera with the LCD BacPac removed.
  3. Press and hold the LCD BacPac button for 2-3 seconds, and then attach the BacPac to the camera.
  4. Keep holding the LCD button for another 5 seconds until you see the LCD BacPac come on and go into preview mode.

If your LCD BacPac does not power on the first time you complete the above steps, please repeat steps 2-4 up to 5 times to see if that will correct the issue.  In some cases, it has taken up to 5 times to get the LCD BacPac working again.  If the LCD BacPac still only shows a black screen, please use the Contact GoPro link to contact a GoPro Customer Support Representative.
