This article describes the process to upload and view 3D video on YouTube.

Step 1: Create and Export the 3D file

Create and Export a 3D video from GoPro Studio.  Here are the available Export preset options in GoPro Studio:

  • 2D: Exports a two dimensional video
  • Side by Side for Youtube 3D:  For YouTube viewing.  YouTube will provide various view options for your user to view the 3D video online.  You will need to change the 3D settings in YouTube under Advanced and indicate the uploaded video is 3D.
  • Anaglyph (Red/Cyan): Exports a file using the 3D effect when using the supplied Red /Cyan glasses.
  • Over/Under: Exports a file with two images along the top and bottom of the frame.
  • Current 3D Display Mode (Windows Only): Exports the current 3D view that is set on step 2.

We recommend using either: "Side by Side for Youtube 3D" or "Anaglyph (Red/Cyan)."

  • Anaglyph (Red/Cyan) - This option is the easiest and requires no special YouTube upload instructions.  Choosing this option fixes the video in Anaglyph 3D mode which cannot be disabled.  Only choose this option if you know that you only want to view this video as Anaglyph (Red/Cyan).
  • Side by Side for Youtube 3D  - This option is more of a power user option that allows you to turn 3D ON and OFF in YouTube as well as define additional 3D viewing options.

Step 2: Upload the video to YouTube

Note: If you exported as Anaglyph (Red/Cyan) in GoPro Studio, you can ignore this step.

You can use the normal YouTube upload process with one big difference.  When uploading the video click the Advanced Settings button and choose "This video is already 3D" from the 3D Video pick list.

Once you select "This video is already 3D" you then have to choose the 3D arrangement.  Select "Side by side: Left video on the left side."

If you already uploaded your video and did not select these settings, you can choose to Edit your video from the YouTube Video Manager and select these correct 3D settings.

Step 3: View the 3D video

Note: If you exported as Anaglyph (Red/Cyan) in GoPro Studio, you can ignore this step.

Your video should now be uploaded and viewable as 3D in YouTube.  If you are not seeing 3D in YouTube, it may be that you just need to turn 3D ON.  Select the Settings button and turn on 3D.

If you cannot turn on 3D and are getting the message: "No HTML5 3D hardware detected," see this YouTube article for more information.  This message may display with Google Chrome, you can likely get around this error by using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.
