Are you getting the most out of your GoPro HERO5 or HERO6? It may very well be that your camera is not operating with the latest and greatest firmware.

You have two options for updating your camera to the latest firmware. You can either A: connect to your mobile device and the GoPro app, or B: download the firmware to a memory card from via your personal computer. 

Updating via GoPro App (easiest)

  • On camera: Swipe down (from top to bottom) on the Touch Display 
  • Select “Connections”
  • Select “Connect New Device”
  • Open GoPro App on your mobile phone


  • Tap camera icon at top left of screen
  • Tap “+ Add Device” at bottom of screen
  • Select your camera model and follow prompts


  • Tap Menu icon at upper left of screen
  • Tap “Camera” (2nd in list)
  • Tap “+” icon at upper right of screen
  • Select your camera model and follow prompts

If your camera needs a firmware update, the GoPro App will let you know with a prompt. Make sure you have a memory card inserted, and the GoPro app will send the new firmware version straight to your camera via the Wi-Fi connection.

If, for some reason, you are having trouble updating via the GoPro app connectivity, you may update it manually.

From your personal computer, visit and follow the prompts. Make sure you have your GoPro within reach, so you can reference the serial number, as well as follow the steps in real time.
