Longtime GoPro athlete and hard-charging WSL competitor Lakey Peterson proved all of the off-season training with her coach Mike Parsons is paying off by taking the opening round of the 2018 World Surf League Womens Championship Tour, the Roxy Pro.

Conditions on the Gold Coast of Australia moved the final from Snapper Rocks to Kirra Point, but it made no difference to Lakey. Clearly focused on the win, she got the best of her finals opponent Keely Andrew, as she had throughout the contest.

Lakey will take her points lead to Bells for the first time in her career, and while she is pumped on her early momentum, she says she will continue to take each event one heat at a time.

The Rip Curl Pro from Bells beach kicks off in the coming weeks, so be sure to tune in at WorldSurfLeague.com
