In collaboration with TIME Inc. and the Associated Press, GoPro traveled to Washington D.C. over inauguration weekend to capture the ceremony and Women’s March in 360° video. Our own virtual reality expert Lee Bledsoe shot both events with Omni, GoPro’s six-camera rig that is a favorite among innovative media companies looking to engage their viewers with immersive content.

During the inauguration at the U.S. Capitol, Omni was positioned in a prime spot on the balustrade above the swearing-in ceremony. It was the only VR camera permitted at the historical event. Check out the timelapse captured by Omni for TIME here.

The next day, Lee and Omni hit the road with TIME reporter Charlotte Alter for the Women’s March on Washington, where they braved the crowds, got the shot, and finished a big magazine story. Check out  the hyperlapse of the march (that was actually too big to march) HERE

Virtual reality has grown dramatically over the past year, giving people from all walks of life the opportunity to experience live events from a unique perspective. We’re stoked that Omni was able to bring these historical events to the people.
