GoPro Fusion Studio App: Camera Not Recognized When Connected to Computer

What’s the issue?

When connecting your Fusion camera to your computer, Fusion Studio doesn't open up or allow you to import media directly from the camera. You won't get any notification letting you know that the camera is or isn't connected, but Fusion Studio also won't open automatically (assuming you have that option checked in the preferences).

How to fix it

WINDOWS

First, make sure that you have enabled "Automatically launch Fusion Studio when camera is connected" in the GoPro Fusion Studio App preferences pane.

Make sure that you don't have any other media processing programs open that may be communicating with your camera(Dropbox, Windows Photos, etc). To check this:
  1. Connect your camera to your computer via USB-C cable and wait for the red LED to appear.
  2. Wait at least 30 seconds to see which application appears first. The GoPro Fusion Studio App should launch by default, but if it doesn't, try the following:
    1. Open the task manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc on the left side of your keyboard.
    2. Under the Processes tab, look for the Background processes section and any apps below it that could be Dropbox, Windows Photos, etc...
    3. Close these processes to isolate the GoPro Fusion Studio App to ensure that one of those programs aren't interfering at all.

MAC

First, make sure that you have enabled "Automatically launch the GoPro Fusion Studio App when camera is connected" in the GoPro Fusion Studio App preferences pane.
  1. While the GoPro Fusion Studio App is open, select "Fusion Studio => Preferences"

Make sure that you don't have any other media processing programs open that may be communicating with your camera(Dropbox, Photos, Image Capture, etc). To check this:
  1. Connect your camera to your computer via USB-C cable and wait for the red LED to appear.
  2. Wait at least 30 seconds to see which application appears first. The GoPro Fusion Studio App should launch by default, but if it doesn't, check two things:
    1. The preferences in the GoPro Fusion Studio App to ensure that "Automatically launch Fusion Studio when camera is connected" is checked.
    2. Open Image Capture and ensure your camera isn't prompted to open any other application. You will need to confirm this for both Fusion Front and Back. Please refer to the screenshot below to know how it should look on your end.
