How To Create A Video Using Quik for mobile

What are you trying to do?

Create a video using Quik for mobile.

Where does it apply?

  • Quik for mobile
  • iOS Devices
  • Android Devices

How to do it

Use Quik for mobile to its full potential! Here is a step by step tutorial for creating new videos using Quik for mobile.

iOS Devices:

Step 1 - Select Photos & Videos
Tap on the + button to start creating your video.
Select your elements: it can be PHOTOS, LIVE PHOTOS and/or VIDEO CLIPS
Quik only supports Video Timelapses not Photo Timelapses.
You need to select at least 5 photos or 1 video clip and you can select up to 200 elements. Keep in mind that the more medias you add the longer the video will take to export.

Supported formats:
  • Photos: JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF remain static, not animated
  • Video clips: MOV, MP4, H264
You can choose from 3 tabs: Photos, GoPro+ and GoPro Recent (footage from your QuikStories from GoPro App)

User-added image

To quickly view an element, long press on it.

When you select videos to import, you can add HILIGHTS, to tell Quik where the best moments in your video are.
For each HiLight, Quik will cut the perfect clip around that moment.

When you're ready tap ADD in the top right corner.
When importing videos with too high a resolution for your device to process, Quik lets you know if you may experience lags or crashes editing them.

The medias chosen will be analyzed and put into your video. If the medias are locally on your device it will be quite fast, however if there are located on the Cloud, it will take longer and you'll need a good internet connection.
Once your medias are downloaded, the PREVIEW of your video will start. Depending on the number of items you selected it can take more or less time to generate the preview.

Keep in mind: The video is created by the device itself, not by a machine on a distant server. The magic happens in your iPhone/iPad, but magic needs a little power so basically the less powerful your device is, the less magic it makes...

4K footage is supported only:
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPad Pro 12.9 in. (1st gen. & 2nd gen.) / 10.5 in.
Currently GoPro 4k 4/3 footage isn't supported.
Step 2 - Choose a video style
The first icon under the preview is to choose a VIDEO STYLE, there are lots of them with lots of different effects!
Try them out and find the one that best fits what you're looking for.

User-added image

The way your images and video clips are shown will depend on the video style you choose, they all have a different look & feel, different graphics, effects, fonts, filters, transitions, different ways of displaying your medias.

  • Styles showing pictures in full

You have the possibility for each photo and videos to have them FIT the screen or FILL the screen:

Some video styles add effects to your LIVE PHOTOS: a short freeze, a black & white or a flash effect.
Look for the Live Photos icon in the top left corner of the video style.

User-added image

Each video style has several VARIATIONS: this gives you the possibility to "TUNE" your video style.
You can change variations by taping on the SLIDERS of the selected video style.
Create your own personal variation by mixing independently fonts and graphics
Have a look at the variation icon it tells you the colors, graphics and font types that will be applied to your video style.

    • You can download the full Quik Music Library (300mb) to access all tracks easily, even offline.
  • MY MUSIC
    • Music of your iTunes Library (stored locally on your device). Use the top bar to search.
    • Import your music: tap “Dropbox / Google Drive / iCloud Drive”. The importer will show iCloud Drive by default - you can switch to Dropbox, Google Drive or other file locations. Supported audio formats: MP3, M4A, MP4, MOV, AAC, ALAC, AIFF and WAV
    • You can import a maximum of 5 songs.
  • NO MUSIC: No music + sound of videos turned on
  • NO SOUND: No music + silent videos
Note that:
    >If the your music track is on the Cloud, it will be displayed in grey when you tap on it, we will offer you to download it on the Music App so that you can use it in Quik.
    • If the track is DRM protected it cannot be imported in Quik. Music bought on iTunes between 2003 and 2009 had DRM protection. This protection prevents Quik from downloading the music to use it in your video.
    • You can clear the music cache in the Settings
    • Your movie is limited to the length of the music you choose, so if the music isn’t long enough you may not see some elements. Have a look here for a work-around.
    • The video ends with the music. However the last element isn't cut with the end of the music, we let it be displayed. So if the last element is a video clip, we let it play until the end and you will have the video clip and no music in the background.

Step 5 - Organize your video
The third icon under the preview is the TIMELINE, it allows you to quickly reorder your video.

    User-added image

The timeline is fully synchronized with the video preview! Watch it moves as your video plays.
Simply long press on an asset and drag and drop texts, photos and videos to reorder or delete them.
You can also remove the GoPro/Quik Outro.

Step 6 - Choose Video Options
The fourth icon, the little wrench under the preview gives you more VIDEO OPTIONS

    User-added image

    1/ VIDEO FORMAT
    • Cinema 16/9 format
    • Square 1/1 format
    • Portrait
    2/ VIDEO DURATION
This will adapt the global duration of your video. This feature does not accelerate or slow down video clips it just changes the timing of how fast elements are displayed one after the other.

    Quik suggests several durations:

    User-added image
    • Instagram duration
    • Quik auto duration
    • Great music ending (2 choices)
    • Maximum duration (= music duration)
It can help you match your video's length with your music.
Your video ends with the music. However the last element isn't cut with the end of the music, we let it be displayed. So if the last element is a video clip, we let it play until the end and you will have the video clip and no music in the background. Same thing you will probably have 2 or 3 photos playing without music at the end of your video.

Another point about pace: Quik works with the music so if the music you choose is fast then your movie will be fast too. So another way of adapting the pace of your video is to change the music.

    3/ MUSIC START
Simply drag the audio waveform to the left to change where the music begins.

    4/ FILTER
Enhance your footage with 20 filters to fit any adventure or scene. + Adjust the filter's intensity for the perfect effect.
    • Beach: Keel, Waimea, Vibe, Soleil
    • Indoor: Nola, Grotto, Vegas, Asana
    • Snow: Blue Bird, Aspen, Luge
    • Urban: Rooftop, Graffiti, Grind
    • Vegetation: Zipline, Sequoia, Vail, Na Pali
    • Water: Gili, Ibiza

Step 7 - Save & Share your video
Once you’ve previewed your video you can SHARE it and SAVE it: tap on the "save" button on the bottom right corner.

    SHARE ON SOCIAL NETWORKS:
This list will show apps that are installed on your device. This will upload your video to our servers and post a link with your video. Here's an example of the apps you could see:
