How to Pair Your Camera with Your Smart Remote

Pair any camera with a Smart Remote.
HERO7 Black

1. Press the Mode button to power the camera on.
2. Swipe down on the LCD screen to bring up Preferences, and tap on it.
3. Tap on connections and choose Connect Device
4. Scroll down to Smart Remote and select it.
5. Put the remote into pairing mode

 
 
HERO6 Black / HERO5 Black

1. Press the Mode button to power the camera on.
2. Swipe down on the LCD screen to bring up Connect, and tap on Connect.
3. Tap on Connect New Device and choose Smart Remote.
4. Put the remote into pairing mode.

Fusion

1. Press the Mode button to power the camera on.
2. Press the Mode button repeatedly until the Settings icon (wrench) appears; press the Shutter button (front) to enter Settings.
3. Press the Shutter button three times to bring up the Connections settings. 
4. Press the Mode button repeatedly, until "CONNECT" is highlighted, then press the Shutter button to select. 

5. Press the Mode button repeatedly, until "SMRTRC" is highlighted, then press the Shutter button to select.
6. Put the remote into pairing mode.


HERO5 Session
1.On the camera, press the Menu button to turn on the status screen.
2. Press the Menu button repeatedly to move to Connection Settings, then press the Shutter button to select it.
3. Press the Menu button to move to Connect New Device, then press the Shutter button to select it.

4. Press the Shutter button to display GoPro RC.
5. Press the Menu button to move to the check mark, then press the Shutter button to confirm the selection. The camera automatically begins pairing.
6. Put the remote into pairing mode.

HERO4

To get started, make sure your camera and remote have a full charge and are powered OFF.

Part 1 - Get your HERO4 camera ready for pairing mode

1. Power ON the HERO4 camera.
2. Navigate and enter the SETUP menu, then press the top shutter button to enter the WIRELESS menu. 
3. In the Wi-Fi menu, press the camera’s front button until “REM CTRL” is highlighted, and then press the Shutter button to select it. 
4. If an option to select Existing, New, or Back appears, select "NEW".
5. On the next screen you’ll see that the camera is now in Pairing mode for the next 3 minutes.
6. Now set your camera aside and pick up the remote.

Part 2 - Remote pairing steps

1. Power on the Smart Remote with the Power/Mode button.
2. When the Smart Remote displays a radiating Wi-Fi symbol, press and hold the Settings/Tag button on the remote (wrench icon). The remote will show two arrows moving towards each other. You can let go of the remote's Settings/Tag button at this time. Now the remote is in pairing mode.

Part 3 - Finish pairing the Remote and HERO4 camera

1. At this point, the camera and remote should both show arrows moving towards each other. After one minute or less, the camera and remote should pair.
2. The remote may ask you to pair another, press the Mode button to highlight "No", then press the red button to select it. Alternatively, you may see the pairing screen (arrows) and the number of connected cameras appear (typically "1"). Press the red shutter button on the Remote to complete the paring process.
3. The remote should now mirror the camera's front LCD screen, indicating that pairing was successful.

Troubleshooting

If the remote and camera are not able to connect, try these steps:

  1. Try to pair the remote to the camera as a 'new' remote (i.e. select "REM CTRL > New" in the camera's Wi-Fi menu).
  2. If pairing doesn't work, try to connect to the camera's Wi-Fi network with a phone/tablet. You'll need to switch the camera to "GoPro App" mode in the camera's Wi-Fi menu first.
 
Session Cameras

To get started, make sure your camera and remote have a full charge and are powered OFF.

Part 1 - Get your Session camera ready for pairing mode

1. Select one of these options: 

If this is the first time the camera will be paired with a Remote: 

a. Press the Info/Wireless button once to power on the screen. 
b. Press the Wireless button until APP & RC, or RC appears.
c. Press the top Shutter button to select. 

If this camera has previously been paired with a Remote:

a. Press the Info/Wireless button once to power on the screen.
b. Press the Info/Wireless button until ADD NEW appears, select this option with the top Shutter button.
c. Press the Info/Wireless button to highlight "RC," select this option with the top Shutter button.

2. On the next screen you’ll see that the camera is now in Pairing mode for the next 3 minutes.
3. Now set your camera aside and pick up the remote.

Part 2 - Remote pairing steps

1. Power on the Smart Remote with the Power/Mode button.
2. When the Smart Remote displays a radiating Wi-Fi symbol, press and hold the Settings/Tag button on the remote (wrench icon). The remote will show two arrows moving towards each other. You can let go of the remote's Settings/Tag button at this time. Now the remote is in pairing mode.

Part 3 - Finish pairing the Remote and HERO4 Session

1. At this point, the camera and remote should both show arrows moving towards each other. After one minute or less, the camera and remote should pair.
2. The remote may ask you to pair another, press the Mode button to highlight "No", then press the red button to select it. Alternatively, you may see the pairing screen (arrows) and the number of connected cameras (typically "1"). Press the red shutter button on the Remote to complete the paring process.
3. The remote should now display the camera's capture settings and recording mode, indicating that pairing was successful.



HERO+ and HERO+ LCD

To get started, make sure your camera and remote have a full charge and are powered OFF.

Part 1 - Get your camera ready for pairing mode

1. Power ON the camera.
2. Navigate and enter the SETUP menu, then press the top shutter button to enter the WIRELESS menu. 
3. In the Wi-Fi menu, press the camera’s front button until “REM CTRL” is highlighted and then press the top button to select it.

HERO3/3+

To get started, make sure your camera and remote have a full charge and are powered OFF.

Part 1 - Get your HERO3+ camera ready for pairing mode

1. Power ON the HERO3+ camera.
2. Press the Wi-Fi button on the left side of the camera with the lens facing you. You’ll see a blue LED blink every couple of seconds to show that you camera’s Wi-Fi is turned on.
3. Press the Wi-Fi button one more time to show the Wi-Fi menu on the camera’s front LCD screen. 
4. In the Wi-Fi menu, press the camera’s front button until “Wi-Fi RC” is highlighted and then press the top shutter button to select it. 
6. On the next screen highlight and select  “New”. 
7. 
If you see “Detach current remote?” Highlight and select “Yes”. After that, you should see two arrows moving towards each other on the camera’s screen. This means that the camera is in pairing mode. Note – the camera is in pairing mode only when its screen shows the two arrows moving towards each other.

Part 2 - Remote pairing steps

1. Power on the Smart Remote with the Power/Mode button.
2. When the Smart Remote displays a radiating Wi-Fi symbol, press and hold the Settings/Tag button on the remote (wrench icon). The remote will show two arrows moving towards each other. You can let go of the remote's Settings/Tag button at this time. Now the remote is in pairing mode.

Part 3 - Finish pairing the WiFi Remote and HERO3+ camera

1. At this point, the camera and remote should both show arrows moving towards each other.  After one minute or less, the camera and remote should each show a checkbox on their screens.
2. If the Remote asks you to pair another, press the white button to highlight "No", then press the red button to select it.
3. If the remote shows a radiating Wi-Fi signal after the camera shows a checkbox, press the red button on the remote. This should make the Remote’s LCD screen mirror the camera’s front LCD screen, indicating that pairing was successful.

Troubleshooting

  1. Try to pair the remote to the camera as a 'new' remote (i.e. select "Wi-Fi RC > New" in the camera's Wi-Fi menu).
  2. If pairing doesn't work, try to connect to the camera's Wi-Fi network with a phone/tablet. You'll need to switch the camera to "GoPro App" mode in the camera's Wi-Fi menu first.

HD HERO 2

To get started, make sure your camera, remote, and BacPac have a full charge and are powered OFF.

Part 1 - Get your Wi-Fi BacPac ready for pairing

1. Power ON the Wi-Fi BacPac and HD HERO2 camera while they’re NOT attached to each other. Then, attach them.
2. Press the Power button on the side of the BacPac to show the Wi-Fi menu on the camera’s front LCD screen. Note – another way to get to the Wi-Fi menu is by using the Power and Shutter buttons on the camera to find it in the camera’s Settings menu. Remember that the Settings menu is represented by a wrench icon, and the Wi-Fi menu is represented by a wireless signal icon.
3. In the Wi-Fi menu, press the camera’s front button until “Wi-Fi RC” is highlighted and then press the top shutter button to select it. 
4. Then highlight and select "New”. 
5. If you see “Detach current remote?” Highlight and select “Yes”. After that, you should see two arrows moving towards each other on the camera’s screen. This means the camera is in pairing mode.

Now we have to get the remote into pairing mode while the camera is still in pairing mode so they can find each other. Note – the camera is in pairing mode only when its screen shows the two arrows moving towards each other.

Part 2 - Remote pairing steps

1. Power on the Smart Remote with the Power/Mode button.
2. When the Smart Remote displays a radiating Wi-Fi symbol, press and hold the Settings/Tag button on the remote (wrench icon). The remote will show two arrows moving towards each other. You can let go of the remote's Settings/Tag button at this time. Now the remote is in pairing mode.

Part 3 - Finish pairing the remote and Wi-Fi BacPac + HD HERO2 Camera

1. At this point, the camera and remote should both show arrows moving towards each other.  After one minute or less, the camera and remote should each show a checkbox on their screens.
2. If the Remote asks you to pair another, press the white button to highlight "No", then press the red button to select it.
3. If the remote shows a radiating Wi-Fi signal after the camera shows a checkbox, press the red button on the remote. This should make the Remote’s LCD screen mirror the camera’s front LCD screen, indicating that pairing was successful.
