Can I use any GoPro HERO4 camera in Omni?
Omni requires the use of GoPro HERO4 Black cameras only. Other GoPro camera models are not supported. Do I need special firmware for the cameras I use in Omni?
Yes. In order to operate the Omni with the synchronization feature, GoPro HERO4 Black cameras must be loaded with the appropriate array and camera firmware. Can I use Omni with my existing GoPro accessories and mounts?
We do not recommend using Omni with standard GoPro accessories and mounts. Single GoPro cameras are lighter than the Omni and the accessories and mounts were designed for these lighter weight cameras. Omni uses industry standard ¼-20 threaded inserts so it can be used with a wide variety of 3rd party mounting solutions. Can I use array firmware cameras outside of the Omni rig?
While you can use HERO4 Black cameras with array firmware outside of the Omni, the array firmware only displays specific settings for use in creating spherical video so some settings, such as resolutions, frame rates, white balance, etc. will not appear as they might with a standard firmware HERO4 Black camera. Can I use Omni for handheld work?
While you can use Omni in handheld shooting, be aware that if the camera is too close to you stitching artifacts (ghosting, distortion, warping) in the video may occur. It is always best to keep the Omni as far from you as possible, such as at the end of pole. Can I use Omni in high-vibration shooting scenarios?
You should avoid using Omni in high-vibration shooting scenarios without image stabilizers. Shooting scenarios not recommended include - but are not limited to - helicopters, go-karts, speedboats, roller coasters, etc. Do I have to take Omni apart to charge the batteries?
No. There are two ways to charge the in-camera batteries on Omni without removing cameras from the rig. One option is to insert mini-USB cables into the cameras while they are in the rig. Another option is to connect the external power adaptor into the inner cube of the rig (External power adaptor is only available in the all inclusive package). In both cases, be sure that Omni is powered off first.
Note: Do not switch from one power source to another (camera batteries to external power or external power to camera batteries) without first powering off the cameras. Failure to follow this guideline can lead to unexpected powering off, interrupted recordings, and erratic Omni behavior. How can I tell if I have a problem with Omni while I’m shooting?
If an Array Error prompt appears on the primary camera in the Omni rig, check the secondary cameras for errors and improper connections. To identify the any secondary cameras that are experiencing the error, refer to its light on the inner cube.
No light on the inner cube:
Why does my footage look “washed out” and not vibrant like typical GoPro footage?
- The camera has no battery installed or the battery
- The camera is not running array camera firmware or
is running a different firmware version than the other
cameras in the array
- Red light on in the inner cube is blinking:
- The camera has no microSD card
- The camera’s microSD card has an error
- Be sure to resolve any issues before attempting to record.
The default recording mode for Omni uses a Flat color setting and Native white balance setting to produce optimal stitching results in a variety of shooting scenarios. The images produced using the default Flat color setting and Native white balance can be color corrected in post-production in your chosen non-linear editing application or color correction application.
You can enable Protune and change settings as desired for: ISO, color, white balance and EV values. Careful selection of these settings can allow you to produce video that may be ready for use without any further adjustments or color correction in post-production. Why is synchronization so important ?
Even half a frame of difference between two of the videos will become apparent in a moving shot. Synch allows you to produce better videos, with more ease. How long can I film with the Omni ?
In 1440/60, the 32 G cards allow you to record about 1h30 minutes of footage. The GoPro battery will last about 45 mn. The external power allows you to record for more than 2 hours. How do I update the Firmware ?
Put the secondary camera (cameras 2-6) firmware on 5 of the SD cards and the primary camera (camera 1/main camera) firmware on the last SD. Insert the first set of SDs into secondary cameras 2-6, start them individually and let them run the update. Once it is done, insert the last SD card containing the primary camera's firmware (camera + rig) into camera #1 and start it up. It will update both the camera and the Omni BacPac. I unscrewed everything and now I’m not sure which camera was the primary camera, is it a problem ?
Nope ! The 6 cameras don’t have to be anywhere specific. Any camera with the Omni Firmware can become the primary camera once it is inserted in the #1 position. What about sound ?
When you render you stitched sequence in Autopano Video Pro, you will have the opportunity to choose what camera provides the sound that will be included in your file. Adittionlly you can still use the GoPro USB-Jack 3.5 mm adapter when the cameras are in the rig to potentially capture better audio. Can I control the rig from my phone ?
No, sorry, this feature is not available. What if I lose or break something ?
You can contact customer support to enquire about spare or replacement parts. Do I need a super computer to work on 360 ?
It makes it faster, but it is not an absolute necessity. How do I get Kolor license for AutoPano Video Pro / AutoPano Giga when i purchase the all inclusive package.
Users are contacted by Kolor based on the email address they supplied when purchasing the Omni All-Inclusive package from gopro.com. Within that email, they are provided with the license key information. How much does GoPro Omni weigh?
What is the tripod thread size for Omni?
- Rig-only = 380 g / 0.84 lb
- Rig with cameras (no in-camera batteries) = 914 g / 2.02 lb
- Rig with cameras and in-camera batteries = 1.05 kg / 2.32 lb
1/4-20 threaded insertCan I use Omni with Karma?
The weight of Omni is higher than the payload capacity of Karma; do not attempt to fly Omni using Karma. If you wish to fly Omni, be sure to select a drone that can sufficiently support the weight of Omni. Omni weighs approximately 1.05kg / 2.32 lb with cameras and batteries installed.I see “ghosting” in some of my stitched footage from the Omni Importer. Why is that and what can I do?
The Omni Importer uses an advanced algorithm that attempts to provide the best possible stitching of the image based on the content in the scene. In many cases, the Omni Importer’s smooth blending, as opposed to sharp blending, produces desirable results. In some cases, items may be too close to the camera resulting in parallax issues. In other cases, the majority of the scene may be at one distance from the cameras, while other elements of the scene may be at a different distance. If you notice “ghosting” due to these issues, you may make changes via the blend selections and 3 masking options in Autopano® Video Pro. To make the process of refining your shot easier, the Omni Importer application produces an Autopano Video Pro project file (.kava). You can open this project file to further refine your shot.
I see two options when I open the Omni Importer application, “SEARCH ON SD CARDS” and “LOCATE YOUR FOOTAGE.” How and when should I use these options?
See the minimum requirements here :http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/Frequently_Asked_Questions_-_General#What_is_the_required_computer_configuration_to_use_the_latest_version_of_Autopano.3F
The “SEARCH ON SD CARDS” option in the Omni Importer is a great choice if you’re working on a project and want to quickly review content on set during production. For most projects, and especially when dealing with a large volume of content, you may find it best to transfer your footage from the microSD cards onto your local storage for backup and then use the “LOCATE YOUR FOOTAGE” option.
The Kolor website has a ton of great information on the software, you can check it out here : http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/view/Documentation
