On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner ascended more than 24 miles above Earth's surface to the edge of space in a stratospheric balloon. Millions across the globe watched as he opened the door of the capsule, stepped off the platform and broke the speed of sound while free falling safely back to Earth. The endeavor played out live on 77 TV channels globally, in addition to millions of online streamers, testing YouTube’s bandwidth at the time, and is still the most watched live stream in the platform’s history.

Felix proved that a human could break the speed of sound in freefall and set three world records that day: Maximum Vertical Speed (1,357.6kph, 843.6mph/Mach 1.25), Highest Exit (jump) Altitude (38,969.4m, 127.852.4ft) and Vertical Distance of Freefall (36,402.6m, 119,431.1ft. He inspired us all to reach beyond the limits of our own realities, and reimagine our potential to achieve the incredible.

Ten years to the day, and nearly 24 million YouTube views later, Red Bull is an all-new documentary that features never-before-seen images and perspectives about the feat.

“SPACE JUMP: How Red Bull Stratos captured the world’s attention” commemorates the lasting and often surprising legacy of the space mission.

GoPro was just as honored to be a part of this epic achievement then—providing seven HD HERO2 cameras to document every moment—as it is today. From the airless freeze of outer space, to the record-breaking free fall and momentous return to ground—see it all through Felix's eyes as captured by GoPro, and experience this incredible mission like never before.
