How to Mount GoPro to Your Helmet?
First and foremost, we want to say that the biggest priority when using GoPro as a helmet cam is SAFETY. We cannot stress this enough. This not only means mounting your camera properly, but it also means knowing your skillset and limits. Getting the shot is cool, but putting your safety at risk to do so is no.
Now for the good stuff! We recommend using a GoPro adhesive mount to attach your camera to a helmet. You have a few options:
- Curved + Flat Adhesive Camera Mounts – You can buy these in a six pack on GoPro.com or just use the sticky (or both) that comes in the box with your GoPro. We love these mounts because you can customize mounting location and angle. Plus, they aren’t permanent nor very expensive—so you can cover your helmet with options and never feel guilty.
PRO TIP: Heat up the adhesive before adhering it to your helmet and allow it to dry overnight, or for up to 24 hours, before using. This allows the adhesive to set and adhere to its strongest potential.
- Helmet Front + Side Camera Mount – This is like the adhesive option above, but it comes with a Swivel Mount, which is the piece you attach to the camera and then clip into place into the helmet-mounted adhesive. What makes this piece unique is that it comes with an extra removable knuckle so you can swivel and adjust the mounting angle or even opt to have the GoPro record vertically.
- Vented Helmet Camera Strap – If you don’t want to go the adhesive route, we offer this one-size-fits-all strap mount that is designed to attach to a vented helmet. Once in place, your GoPro is mounted top and center to capture everything from your POV.
Why Should I Wear a Helmet Camera?
So why do motorcyclists wear cameras and why do so many other people make use of helmet camera mounts and devices? Capturing and sharing clips of your adventures can be a fun way to enhance and relive those moments, and this has helped helmet cameras become more popular. But even for the average bicycle, motorcycle, or water ski enthusiast, there are many other good reasons for using a helmet camera.
- Safety. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. Your safety is the No. 1 reason to always wear a helmet. And if you’re already wearing a helmet, you might as well mount a hands-free camera to it.
- Stabilization. Your head is naturally the most stable part of your body during any activity, so even with GoPro’s in-camera HyperSmooth video stabilization turned on, helmet mounts are the best way to get quality, stable POV content.
- Enhancing your hobbies. Another big benefit of wearing a helmet camera is how it can help you take your enjoyment of riding and adventuring to a new level. Having a camera on your helmet while riding a motorbike or bicycle, for example, could trigger a passion for video editing as you upload your clips to the computer and make some adjustments. Or you could share your content online on your own vlog or social media accounts.
