GoPro is all about capturing unforgettable experiences and living in the moment, so the last thing you want to be worrying about is battery life. Here are a few tips, tricks and GoPro accessories that will help you get the most out of your GoPro battery.

How long does GoPro battery last?

There are slight variations in battery life for each GoPro camera. Shooting in higher resolution and higher frame rates take more battery power while using a lower resolution requires less battery. Here's a benchmark of what to expect out of your GoPro battery:

Tips for extending GoPro battery life

The best way to get the most out of your battery is to tailor your camera settings to your activity. This is where our recently launched Video Performance Modes come into play. Video Performance Modes allow you to configure your camera setup to match your activity and maximize battery life. Watch the video above or read on to learn more about the three Video Performance Modes:

1. Maximum Video Performance

This mode allows maximum video resolution and frame rates. Select this option if image quality is your top priority.

2. Extended Battery

This mode increases battery life by optimizing video resolution and frame rate combinations to those that maximize battery life.

3. Tripod / Stationary Video

GoPro users love using their cameras in stationary setups–webcams, live streams, b-roll and more—the Tripod / Stationary Video setting offers optimal resolution and frame rates for long video shoots where there is no motion or airflow to cool the camera.

How long does it take to charge a GoPro battery?

Battery charging times for your GoPro battery vary depending on the power source used. When using a GoPro Dual Battery Charger, for example, you can charge up in as little as two hours. Charging directly through another device, like a laptop while you're traveling, will take around four hours. For the fastest charge, we recommend using the GoPro SuperCharger, which enables USB-C-to-C wall charging.

If you're using one of a new HERO10 & HERO9 Enduro Battery, it will reach full charge around 13% faster than the standard GoPro battery.

What are the best accessories to extend GoPro battery life?

Don't be distracted when you see your camera's battery indicator dip to the single digits. These GoPro accessories will boost your camera's battery life and allow you to recharge quickly when you're on the go.

For a power boost when you can't put your camera down

GoPro just launched Volta, a versatile battery grip that charges your camera while you use it. Beyond just power, it comes loaded with:

  • Over 4 hours of 5.3K recording at 30 frames per second: Built-in 4900 mAh battery combines with your camera’s standard battery to triple its normal battery with even more runtime when recording at lower resolutions.
  • Integrated camera buttons: Give you easy one-handed control of your GoPro while it’s attached to the grip.
  • Wireless remote capabilities: Detach Volta to use as a remote control for your camera from up to 98 feet away for group shots or selfies.
  • Built-in tripod legs: Easily flip out any time you need to set it down to capture extended time lapse footage and other stationary shots.
  • Weather resistance: Fit for rain and snow conditions.

The best single battery for cold and moderate temperatures

We've mentioned the Enduro Battery a few times now. This battery was launched in November 2021—just in time to bring significant improvements to cold weather run times, a.k.a. snow season!

With HERO10 Black, the Enduro battery enables the following average recording times at a battery temperature of 14°F / -10°C (note: this is the battery’s temperature, it can be even colder outside):

    • 56 minutes of 5.3K60 video
    • 50 minutes of 4K120 video
    • 76 minutes of 4K60 video
    • 115 minutes of 1080p30 video

Enduro also significantly increases video recording time in moderate temperatures. For example, with HERO10 Black during typical outdoor activities at a temperature of 77°F / 25°C, the Enduro battery enables, on average:

    • 60 minutes of 5.3K60 video (a 28% improvement over the standard battery)
    • 51 minutes of 4K120 video (a 40% improvement over the standard battery)
    • 71 minutes of 4K60 video (a 13% improvement over the standard battery)
    • 120 minutes of 1080p30 video

    Best for speedy HERO10 + HERO9 charging

Pick up the HERO10 & HERO9 Dual Battery Charger + Spare Battery:

    • Rapid charging when the GoPro battery requires a top-up
    • The charger has room for two batteries, which comes in handy after a long day of video shooting.

    Best for GoPro MAX users

The MAX Rechargeable Battery with the MAX Dual Battery Charger + Battery are your friends when it comes to maximizing battery life and equipping yourself with backup options.

    Best for HERO8 users

Use the HERO8 Black Rechargeable Battery as a spare or replacement battery, and keep the HERO8 Black Dual Battery Charger + Battery on hand to power up at short notice.
