With Olympic Golds in Torino and Vancouver, ten ESPY awards and more X Games Golds than anyone else on earth, Shaun White has proven time and again he’s one red-headed step child that can’t be beat. What’s next for the winningest snowboarder in history? Clearly that’s for Shaun to decide and the rest of us to witness. He’s set to compete in both Halfpipe and Slopestyle in Sochi. While most athletes will return with passport stamps, the past proving precedent, Shaun will be filling out forms for heavy metal. His unique brand of fearlessness started early. The local pro at his neighborhood skatepark was a little-known named Tony Hawk, the transitions triple-overhead. (If they debut Vert in the 2016 Summer Games, expect to find Shaun there too.) When it came to snow, his parents initially switched him from skis just to slow him down. When that didn’t work they make him ride backwards, and we all know how that worked out. Still in his prime, Shaun’s a unique man, a gifted musician, strangely humble all things considered, and a qualified legend within the sport.
