HD HERO2, HD HERO Original, and HD HERO 960 Battery Life

With a single battery, you will get approximately 2.5 hours of continuous video recording time in mild and warmer temperatures. Cold temps will reduce run times somewhat, however the camera helps to minimize this by transferring the normal heat generated during operation towards the battery. If you use our Battery BacPac, you can use two batteries at the same time to effectively double recording times.

Using the Camera While Charging

You can simultaneously charge and record with the HD HERO Original, HD HERO2, HERO3, or HERO3+ cameras.  To do this, you can use the supplied USB cable.  Use that to connect your camera to a USB wall charger or auto charger that outputs 5V and 1A.  You cannot record while the camera is connected to a computer.

How to Prevent Wind Noise on Videos

If you find that you are picking up too much wind noise in your recording, there are several things you can do to minimize this: When you don't need the camera to be waterproof and are traveling under 100MPH, you can use the open back housing door.  This will allow for more of the engine or exhaust noise to be picked up by the microphone, and override the wind noise. Mount the camera in a location that is exposed to the wind as little as possible.  Placing the camera right in... Read More »

How to Clean the Camera Lens

All of the cameras’ lenses are cleaned before they leave the factory.  Sometimes a thin purple film can be seen on the lens.  If this occurs, it just means that our cleaning solution wasn’t wiped off all the way. There’s an easy way to remove it. Breathing gently on the lens to fog it up and then wiping with a gentle cloth is the most affective way to clean the lens.  Repeat until clean. We recommend against using a cleaning solution.  If you use a cleaning solution, you run the risk... Read More »

How to Prevent Waves or Distortion in Videos

If you are experiencing this wavy or distorted footage when using your GoPro during an activity where there is a large amount of vibration, it is most likely that a vibration is being emitted which is actually reaching the camera's sensor and causing the waviness. Depending on where and how you have your camera placed, there are a number of things you can do.  For example, when placed on a roll bar, add a strip of rubber (i.e. from a bike inner tube) to dampen the vibration.  With the curved or... Type of Battery Used In the HD HERO Cameras

The HD HERO kits include a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack. The battery is charged directly through the USB cable when connected from the camera to a computer or USB wall/car power adapter. The battery pack is designed specifically for use in the HD HERO camera and the rigorous activities that it is put through.

Recommended USB Ports

When you connect your camera or BacPac to your desktop computer, we recommend that you use a USB port on the back of the computer.  USB ports on the back of a computer are more reliable than USB ports on the front.  Also, we recommend against connecting to USB ports on keyboards, monitors, and USB hubs.
