If your computer tells you to format your 64 GB MicroSD card every time you connect it to your computer, but your computer won’t actually let you format the card, this means that either the card is defective or your computer doesn’t support the exFAT file system.
It’s standard practice for SD card manufacturers to format 64 GB MicroSD cards to exFAT. The HERO3 also formats 64 GB MicroSD cards to exFAT.
exFAT is supported by the following operating systems:
- Windows XP after you install the Microsoft update here.
- Windows Vista with Service Pack 1
- Windows 7
- Windows 8
- Mac OS 10.6.5 (OS X Snow Leopard)
- Mac OS 10.7 (OS X Lion)
- Mac OS 10.8 (OS X Mountain Lion)
If your operating system doesn’t support exFAT and you don’t want to upgrade your OS, we recommend purchasing a 32 GB (or smaller) MicroSD card. It’ll be formatted to FAT32, so you shouldn’t run into any compatibility issues with your OS.
