Video Tutorial: How to Create 3D Clips with the 3D HERO System or Dual HERO System

3D Glasses

You will not have to purchase any glasses to view your 3D content in Anaglyph as they are included with the 3D HERO System. However if you wish to view your content on a passive or active television you may need to purchase alternative 3D glasses if they were not included with purchase of your television.  Check out our Ways to Watch 3D page.  

Changing Settings on Cameras in the 3D HERO System

You need to change settings on each camera individually in order to be able to use your files for 3D.  Always make sure that settings are updated and set to be exactly the same on each camera before 3D recording.

Playing 3D Files By Connecting the Cameras to a TV

You cannot connect the cameras to your TV to play a 3D file.  You will not have a 3D file until you convert the two 2D files recorded by each camera into a single GoPro 3D media file.  So, you will not be able to playback in 3D directly off the camera.  You will need to use GoPro Studio in order to create a 3D file from the files you recorded using the 3D HERO System or Dual HERO System.  Once you have a converted file on your computer, you can playback on... Waterproof Rating for the 3D HERO System

The 3D HERO System is approved at the same underwater rating as the HD HERO waterproof housing, down to 197ft/60meters.

3D HERO System Compatibility

The 3D HERO System is currently compatible with HD HERO Original camera and the HD HERO2 camera.  It is not compatible with the Standard Definition HERO camera or the HD HERO 960 camera.  You will need to update your camera's software before using the 3D HERO System. File Format for 3D Recordings

The cameras record .mp4 video files.  Pictures will be saved as .jpg files.  These are the same files that the camera will record in without the Dual HERO BacPac or 3D sync cable inserted. You can use one or both of the files depending on whether or not you wish to create 2D media or 3D media.

3D Sync Cable Insertion and Ejection Order

Any order is acceptable for insertion and ejection of the 3D Sync Cable when using the 3D HERO System. Please make sure the orientation is correct—left camera is upside down and right camera is right side up.

Modes Available for 3D Recording

For 3D recording: Timelapse (PES) is available at 2,5,10,30, and 60 second intervals.  The following video recording modes are also available: WVGA 60fps, 720p 30fps, 720p 60fps, 960p 30fps, 960p 48 fps (HD HERO2 only), 1080p 30fps.
