Which cameras will work with the 3D HERO System (HD960, Standard Def, etc.)?

Will I have to update my firmware?
Yes, using the GoPro 3D HERO System requires an upgrade to your HD HERO cameras firmware. Please visit our firmware section to download and install this update if you have not already done so. You will need to do this update on both cameras which are being used for 3D recording.
Do both 3D HERO Sync cables need to be inserted and ejected in a particular order?
Any order is acceptable for insertion and ejection of the sync cable. Please make sure the orientation is correct—left camera is upside down and right camera is right side up.
Do the SD cards used on both cameras have to be the same brand, size and class?
No, as long as the cards used are the recommended specs for the HD HERO they do not have to be identical between cameras. You can have different sizes, class ratings, and brands and the sync will still be effective.
When connected with the sync cable, does the shutter button control both cameras?
For recording, yes. You will only need to press record once on the Master [R] camera if you want to start synced 3D recording. If you would like to adjust modes, or turn the camera on and off you will need to use the mode/power button on both cameras.

Do I only have to change the setting on one camera?
No, you will need to make sure that settings are updated and set to be exact on each camera before 3D recording.
Do I need to put the camera’s in UP/UPD?
Upon insertion of the sync cable the cameras will automatically orientate depending on which side of the sync has been inserted. R will place the camera is UP, while L will place the camera in UPD. This orientation will stay set until manually changed or alternate sync is inserted. (Note: if you wish to return your cameras to UP orientation after use, simply insert the R sync into both cameras)
Why don’t the red lights blink at the same time?
The red lights do not indicate that the two cameras are in or out of sync. Since this feature can be turned off in the settings menu (BLO/BLF) they are not a requirement to indicate synced recording. You may find that in some instances they match up, and others do not.
Can I capture time-lapse photos with one camera while the other camera is recording video?
This is possible, but not with the sync cable inserted. The sync cable will only assist with synced 3D recording when modes are identical between cameras. If you would like to use the 3D housing for dual recording you can simply neglect the sync cable and start recording before inserting the cameras into the housing. Make sure to place the camera that is upside down in UPD mode before recording may also assist with your editing.
Will one button mode function for 3D recording?
One button will not be available for 3D recording. It will be removed from the settings upon insertion of the Sync Cable.

What happens if my file names don’t match up?
GoPro CineForm Software has an auto-pairing feature which will determine whether a match for 3D is available based on many different aspects of data. If your clips do not have the same name the system will still attempt to auto-pair your file. In some cases you may find that it has not. If this happens you can manually pair your mislabeled videos using the Manual Import feature in the import queue. (Note: it is always important to organize your media before beginning a project. If you find that your clips are out of order, or scattered, it is always a good idea to organize them before you begin importing them into the software.)
What happens if my files end up in different recording lengths?
If all settings are correct during 3D recording your files should not waver in lengths. GoPro CineForm Studio will not accept clips that do not properly align for 3D conversion. You can trim these clips to match lengths before import if you wish to combine these for 3D.
What do the Vertical and Horizontal adjustments do?
When a 3D file is created you are working with two active videos. If the auto-align between clips does not converge to your liking, you can use the Vertical and Horizontal adjustments to adjust these two videos to correct alignment.
